The second leg of the 2023 King Price Insurance Team Tournament Trial at Von Bach Dam happened over the weekend and we spoke to the top teams to get the run down of what worked for the them on the day.
According to Team WBM Lureworks Boater, Neil Engelbrecht, fishing started to slow although they did get bites early on but all of them turned out to be African Sharp Tooth Catfish.
Deciding to move to some offshore structure nearby turned out to be their best move as immediately Jacques Le Roux landed the first bass on a 5” watermelon Yamamoto Senko shed on a 1/8oz free running Texas Rig. This fish set the tone for a great days fishing. Within the next 45 min they caught their bag limit to close to 7kg. The big bass for the tournament was caught on the same structure at around 10 am on a Rapala Glass Fat Rap crank bait.
Thinus Williams of Team WK Insurance 2 said they focused on main lake islands with autumn approaching and a chilly pull away, Lourens Delport caught the first keeper early at their 2nd stop. We tested other similar islands and started picking up better size fish on 5” Yamamoto Senko in variety of colours, fishing weightless in more stained water. Sticking with this pattern the rest of the day he said that got them a late afternoon 2.4kg bass.
